When PR Goes Wrong

PETA's "Holocaust on Your Plate" Campaign

This PR campaign was labelled the "most tasteless PR campaign ever." PETA attempted to convince people to become vegetarians. They compared the eating of meat with the torture and slaughter of Jews by the Nazis.

PETA juxtaposed photographs of emaciated concentration camp inmates in their tight-packed wooden bunks, with chickens being kept in small cages. PETA also juxtaposed an image of the piled up bodies of the Holocaust victims with a photo of the bodies of dead pigs.

PETA not only offended Germany it also offended people of all faiths by saying that "only vegetarians can be observant Christians, Jews, Mormons and Muslims.

This Campaign is a prime example of how NOT to do a PR campaign.
